Frequently asked questions

The eight questions our readers ask most, answered without spin.

  • Does Trusty run a credit check?

No. Trusty runs no credit check at all — no hard search, no soft search, no footprint. It's 100% acceptance: every UK applicant aged 18+ with a valid UK current account is approved. Decision in 60 seconds, £1,200 opening credit at 0% APR.

  • Will applying through this site hurt my credit score?

No. The featured partner Trusty does not credit check applicants at all, so nothing is recorded on your credit file when you apply. Your score is unaffected whether you're approved or not.

  • Do I need a bank account to apply?

Yes — a UK current account in your name is required to receive the credit line and set up the direct debit for repayments. Basic bank accounts (Barclays Basic, HSBC Basic, etc.) count.

  • I'm on Universal Credit / PIP / ESA. Can I still apply?

Yes. Affordability-led lenders count UC, PIP, ESA, Carer's Allowance and state pension as declared income. You'll need to declare them accurately at application — Open Banking is used to verify.

  • How much credit can I get?

Opening limits typically range from £300 to £1,200 depending on affordability. Successful repayment for six months usually unlocks a limit review.

  • What if I have a CCJ or default?

A single CCJ or default doesn't automatically disqualify you at affordability-led lenders — active payday loans and current arrears do. If your CCJ is satisfied, disclose it honestly; underwriters weight that positively.

  • Is 0% APR really 0%?

On the featured partner's introductory credit line, yes — no interest, no mandatory fees, APR is genuinely zero. Read our guide 'Interest-Free vs 0% APR' for the industry-wide picture; not all '0%' offers are equal.

  • How do I cancel?

You have a 14-day cooling-off period under FCA rules from the day the agreement is signed. After that, pay the outstanding balance in full at any time — no early repayment fees on regulated consumer credit under £8,000.

  • Who do I complain to if something goes wrong?

First, the lender's complaints team — they must respond within eight weeks. If unresolved, escalate free of charge to the Financial Ombudsman Service (financial-ombudsman.org.uk).
